"Honor Art" Project

As members of the Arroyo Grande Police Department, we have been given the honor and privilege of enforcing the law. We are proud of our profession and we conduct ourselves in a manner that merits the respect of all people. Our actions must always match our words.

The "Honor Art" project was developed to be a constant reminder of the honor and privilege we have been given and the proud tradition of the policing profession.

In 2014-15, the Arroyo Grande Police Department embarked on a police station reconstruction project that transformed the facility into a contemporary, welcoming and efficient police facility. One challenge was what type of "art" would be most appropriate for a police station.

Although many members thought some form of motivational art would be stylish, the fact that most available motivational art really did not tell the story of the police profession, nor did it depict police officers doing the noble work of law enforcement.

The idea was hatched to couple one of the most motivational books on policing - "The Nobility of Policing" by FranklinCovey with photographs of our actual members in the course of their work. Other additional motivational quotes could also be used.

With the help of local photographer Keith Hadick, more than 400 photographs were taken in order to pick out just the right ones that truly depict our chosen profession. The "Honor Art" project was showcased at the Police Station grand opening in June 2015 and has been acclaimed as one of the best examples of motivational imaging in police work.

Please take a moment to enjoy the "Honor Art"photographs of our members and the rightful message each piece illustrates.

A special thanks to photographer Keith Hadick and the FranklinCovey Company.
