The Arroyo Grande Police Department has 29 dedicated full-time employees and two part-time employees with a budget in fiscal year 2023 - 2024 of $6.4 million dollars. The Department has an excellent reputation within the community and the entire County, embraces community policing, and upholds a strong customer service attitude in conjunction with ensuring the quality of life in our community.
The organizational structure consists of two major divisions; Patrol Services and Support Services, each led by a Commander. The remainder of the full-time team includes the Chief of Police and Executive Secretary, five Police Sergeants, five Senior Police Officers, thirteen Police Officers, and two Records Clerks.
The crime rate in the region is among the lowest in California. The Department responded to 18,722 documented incidents in 2021 and 17,987 documented incidents in 2012.
