Secondhand Dealer Permit

NEW OR INITIAL LICENSE

Prior to the granting of a license, the local agencies (sheriff or chief of police) are required to submit the secondhand dealer or pawnbroker "application package" to DOJ's Secondhand/Pawnbroker Licensing Unit for processing.

A NEW or Initial application package for a License consists of the following items:

  • Secondhand Dealer or Pawnbroker License Application
  • Request for Live Scan Service form
  • Money order or check payable to DOJ for applicable fees.
  • $20,000 Surety Bond (Pawnbrokers only)
  • $100,000 Surety bond or financial review (Pawnbrokers only)

RENEWAL LICENSE

A RENEWAL application to maintain a License is required every 2 years and must be received by DOJ by this deadline or the License will be canceled.

The RENEWAL application consists of the following items:

  • Secondhand Dealer or Pawnbroker License Application
  • Fees payable to DOJ
  • $20,000 Surety Bond (Pawnbrokers only)
